I don't know if you would consider them the best but I think Shamanic Princess ( I've only seen the first one so I don't know about the second..) , Those Who Hunt Elves , and Pet Shop of Horrors as some you should see ( I'm sorry that I couldn't give any one-video / dvd titles..SP has at least two that I know of and so does PSOH , TWHE is a series and I haven't seen all of them but the ones I have were funny..oh wait..Labyrinth of Flames is great in my opinion if you think you can handle Anime at its most extreme...heh )

I reeeally want to see Pet Shop of Horrors but I sort of want to read the manga first.

Wings of Honnamise (not a clue as to how to spell that word) is good but there not much action. In fact, it's a little boring. But I liked it.

I really liked Ninja Scroll and I thought Macross Plus was alright but I have never seen the ending. It came on TV a few times in four parts but I miss the fourth part every time.

Laputa Castle in the Sky is good... I think. I watched it in Japanese with no subtitles so I had some trouble understanding what was going on. Same thing with Kiki's Delivery Service. Maybe I should rent the Disney version just so I can figure it out. But it's not hard to underatand what going on even with the language barrier.

Anyway these are the only anime movies I've seen besides stuff from series.

I've only seen two anime films: Princess Mononoke and Perfect Blue. Both of them were really good, so I'd recommend those. Oh, and I saw Final Fantasy something or another, but I don't remember that too well. I've also had the X DVD sitting around my room for months, and I've heard it's a great movie...but I haven't watched it yet.

X is a great movie, but it puts me to sleep faster than a waterbed...
If I had to go with any single title... I'd have trouble! Laughing
There's a lot of great series out there, My current obessions are hellsing, excel saga, and tenshi ni narumon (I'm gonna be an angel).
Series I have yet to but hear are really good are Sci Fi Harry and Chobits (cause they ain't distributed in america yet)

Shamanic Princess is one of my favorites, the whole series is on one DVD, dunno how it works with VHS, I have the DVD of petshop of horrors, it rocks my socks, and my little sister has the first volume of the manga (I can't beleive they didn't make the doberman chapter into an episode!)

The Escaflowne movie is good if you don't expect the movie to be the same as the series. The characters personalities are different and the movie is a lot darker than the series.
The Inu Yasha movie is pretty good. It's a movie based on the series, and everyone stays in character. The story is original and is made by the company that produces Inu Yasha. As far as I know, Rumiko Takahashi didn't have any input in it.
I would definately recomment Princess Mononoke. It's beautifully animated and has a good storyline. It's worth watching just to see the little tree spirits Very Happy

After following the X manga and anime I would have to say that the X movie was horrible. The only good thing about it was the animation, it's gorgeous. There is no character developement, and unless you follow the manga I would find a trifle confusing as to why everyone is killing off everyone else. I would definately recommend watching the anime as opposed to the movie.

I've seen all of Macross Plus, it was good. Didn't end quite the way I expected, but it was good. I really liked Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service. Mononoke was good too, but bittersweet.

If you want suggestions for series as well, Slayers is my fav of all time. Other great ones include Trigun and if you like shojo, Magic Knight Rayearth.

my recommendations for now are:
-Excel Saga (comedy, and a gut busting one at that Laughing)
-Hellsing (vampire story, loads of action and violence)
-FLCL (wierd Comedy and action, great artwork too)
-Cowboy Bebop (action and with a lil bit of snazziness)
-Mazinkaiser (Mecha anime, OVA of one of the greatest robo Animes of all time)
-Shin Getta Robo (same as Mazinkaiser, only different robo and story line)

Umm... Pet Shop of Horrors, Mononoke Hime, ....anything by Miyazaki. Bubblegum Crisis is nice, but not my favorite.

Me, I recommend Cowboy Bebop and Excel Saga too (like Karth said). I also recommend Trigun. Vash has some serious mad skillz and he has style.

Oh yeah, and GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka). Onizuka is so pimp (even though he's a little dumb.)

Miyazaki films are good too.

What else...?

Oh yeah, as far as old anime goes, I recommend Ranma 1/2, Gunsmith Cats, Dominion Tank Police, Ghost in the Shell, and the ever-classic Lupin III.

My 100th post!! YATTA!!
